In 1997, the Police Unity Tour was started by Patrick Montuore, of Florham Park Police Department (NJ),
to show his support for law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, raise local awareness for the National Law Enforcement Officers
Memorial in Washington DC and ultimately, raise money to support the Memorial Fund.
The Police Unity Tour is a non-profit organization that has grown from one chapter with a few members to seven chapters
with over 750 members. Police Officers apply to become members of a local chapter and pledge to raise
$1600.00 per rider in order to bike from their respective locations to Washington DC.
For Chapter 2, in Southern New Jersey,
the ride takes place over the course of three days. The first day is devoted to stopping in
each of the towns where fallen officers have served and recognizing them for the sacrifice they have made while on duty.
The ride coincides annually with National Police Week during the month of May.
Currently there are seven chapters of the Police Unity Tour and they are located in Florida,
Virginia, California (North & South), New Jersey (North & South), and New York.
The chapters ultimately meet at the Jefferson Memorial before riding together to Judiciary Square where the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is located.
The riders arrive the day before the Candlelight Vigil which is an annual ceremony to recognize those officers that have given their lives in the line of
duty and to add the names of officers that have died during the previous year as well as any other officers that died in previous
years but had not yet been recognized by the Memorial.

The Police Unity Tour is proud to be one of the largest sponsors for the
National Law Enforcement Officers
Memorial Fund (NLEOMF). The Memorial was founded in 1983 by members of the United States Congress who wanted to recognize
the services and sacrifices of all law enforcement officers who have ever died in the line of duty. The Memorial is located at Judiciary
Square in Washington DC and covers three acres of land. It was dedicated in 1991 and honors all of America's federal, state and local law enforcers.
To date, there are more than 16,500 names of officers inscribed randomly on the Memorial.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund includes:
- Operating a Memorial Visitors Center and Museum
- Researching old and new deaths of officers killed in the line of duty
- Conducting ceremonies and other events at the Memorial
- Working towards preventing police fatalities
- Promoting the Memorial as a major tourist attraction
- Recognizing the anniversaries of all line of duty deaths
- Maintenance of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial
To date, the Police Unity Tour has raised over $4.2 Million in support of the Memorial. For the 2008 Ride the Tour raised $1,250,000 alone and has pledged another
$1,000,000 for each of the next two years. Please contact
